Nepal. Places of interest here
are the Kasthamandap: It lies
near the temple of Kumari. It
was built in 1596 by King Laxmi
Narsingh Malla. It is said to be
constructed from the wood of a
single tree. It is believed that
Kathmandu derived its name from
Kastha Mandap.
Kumari Temple: It is the
residence of Living Goddess
(Virgin Goddess). The building
has profusely carved wooden
balconies and window screens.
The non-Hindu visitors may enter
the courtyard, but may not go
beyond. The Kumari acknowledges
their greetings from her balcony
window. Photography is
prohibited.
From here visit Swayambhunath:
This is said to be more than
2000 years old and is one of the
world's oldest Buddhist Chaityas.
The stupa which forms the main
structure is composed of a solid
hemisphere of brick and earth
supporting a cornice of copper
and gilt. Painted on the four
sided base of the spire are the
all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha.
It is two miles west of
Kathmandu city. Situated on a
hillock it is about 250 feet
high above the level of the
Valley. The hill is a mosaic of
small chaityas and pagoda
temples and possesses great
dignity and beauty.

Day 03 |
Kathmandu
Bhaktapur
: Bhaktapur is
lying at 12 KM
east of capital
city Kathmandu.
Bhaktapur is
"the city of
Devotees". It is
locally known as
"Khwopa and
Bhadgaon" which
is world
renowned for its
elegant art,
fabulous culture
, colourful
festivals,
traditional
dances and
indigenous life
style of
different people
of different
religion. For
its majestic
monuments,
temples and the
native typical
newar lifestyle
best known for
their long
history of
craftsmanship,
the ancient city
is also
variously known

Culture ",

Visit Patan Durbar
Square
As an ensemble, the
Durbar Square in Patan
probably remains the
most picturesque
collection of buildings
that has been set up in
so small a place by the
piety and pride of
Oriental man." -
Perceval Landon, 1928.
Patan Durbar Square, the
center of Lalitpur, "The
City of Fine Arts," is
one of the places in the
Kathmandu Valley, where
the medieval arts and
architecture still
remain in its original
state. It maybe so
because, comparatively,
less destruction
occurred here during the
great earthquake in 1934
that left most of the
Valley in ruins; and the
reconstruction of the
dilapidated complexes
was successful to bring
back its seventeenth
century antiquity. The
red bricked, three-
storied palace dominates
the east side as it runs
along the entire length
of the Square. Facing at
this palace are the
temples and sikharas of
various sizes and
styles. These complexes
were added at different
times through the
history, without any
plans, but they
perfectly blend together
to form the Square. The
entire Square is paved
with brick, which
usually get crowded with
people during different
festivals.
Over Night at Kathmandu. |
